Portrait of Emre Turan

Emre Turan

AI Engineer

I build production AI agents and systems, plus the reliability layer most builders skip.

6+ years shipping production AI, most recently as Lead AI Engineer at the AI Objectives Institute. B.S. Statistics & Data Science, UCLA.

Selected work

AI Objectives Institute - Lead AI Engineer at the nonprofit behind Talk to the City, the public-deliberation platform adopted by Taiwan's Ministry of Digital Affairs, founded by Let's Encrypt co-creator Peter Eckersley. I built its multimodal WhatsApp intake agent, deployed with Search for Common Ground (the world's largest peacebuilding organization), Notre Dame, and across 55 universities at 10-20K messages/day.

Headroom - An agent-oversight firewall for AI agents, built on a finding I measured and published: past a point, more human review can make a system less safe.

arXiv paper →

Governor - A reusable oversight layer for autonomous agents: an LLM proposes an action, and a deterministic core (no LLM) decides whether it runs automatically, escalates to a human, or holds under load - measured against human judgment, not assumed correct. Built from scratch in Python and as a live n8n workflow.

Recommendation

"He designed, implemented, and deployed an AI-backed chatbot - working mostly independently, with limited resources and evolving requirements. Emre would be an asset to any team he joins."

Beyond engineering

In high school I founded and led Kids of Hope - a sports camp for 400 Syrian refugee children in Kilis, Turkey, after UNICEF told me I was too young to run one.

Work with me

Building something with AI where reliability matters? Tell me the problem and I'll tell you honestly whether it's the right tool.
